作曲家の武満徹から「今までに聴いたことがないようなギタリスト」と評されて以後、ソロ・リサイタルのみならず、現代音楽の初演やアンサンブル、コンチェルトなどでの明晰な解釈力と洗練された技術によって常に注目を集める 。
近年はジャズやタンゴ奏者との共演や、自作品を中心とするライヴも行い、また編曲作品はCDやコンサート共に好評で、他のギタリスト達にも演奏・録音されている。
美術作品からインスパイアされたプログラムも多く、これまでに国立新美術館「オルセー展」、ブリジストン美術館「ドビュッシー展」、都立現代美術館「田中一光展」を始めとする多くの美術展でのコンサートを成功させている。
これまでに市村員章、福田進一、尾尻雅弘、エリオット・フィスク、ホアキン・クレルチの各氏に師事。マリア・カナルス国際コンクール第3位、アレッサンドリア市国際ギター・コンクール優勝。第10回出光賞、第56回芸術選奨新人賞を受賞。
Since a Japanese composer, Toru Takemitsu described Daisuke Suzuki as “The guitarist whose sound we’ve never heard before,” he has always been took the lead in new generation of musicians today.
Born in 1970, Daisuke Suzuki began guitar lessons at the age of eight with Kazuaki Ichimura. He continued his guitar studies under Shin-ichi Fukuda and Masahiro Ojiri, and also pursued composition with Tetsuo Kawakami and Yoshiomi Nakajima.
By the time of his graduation from Waseda University in 1993(majoring in humanism and musicology), Daisuke had already proved his talent with the first prize in the Japan Junior Guitar Education Association’s Competition (1982), the Kanagawa Prefecture New Guitarist Audition (1986) and the Guitar Competition presented by the Yomiuri Newspaper (1989). Internationally, he was awarded the third prize in the 1992 Maria Canals de Barcelona International Competition for Musical Performance – Guitar Division.
Since 1993, Suzuki’s international activities have made him earn greater recognition both in Japan and abroad, beginning with his victory that year at the Citta de Alessandrea, Concorso Internazionale de Chitarra Classica with “Omàggio a Andrés Segovia” in Italy. In 1994, his talents were acknowledged by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs, and he won their scholarship to study for one year at Salzburg’s Mozarteum. While there, he cultivated his knowledge of period, approaching in the Renaissance and Baroque repertoire, under the tutelage of Elliot Fisk and Joaquin Clerch. Before returning to Japan, his recitals held in Europe, including Austria, Italy, and the Czech Republic, were highly acclaimed.
Suzuki often worked closely to music by Toru Takemitsu, and that gave him an honor to perform in the Saito Kinen Festival’s Toru Takemitsu Memorial Concert (1996), as well as in memorial concerts in 1998~2003. In 1999, he played a recital on the anniversary of Takemitsu’s death in Tokyo Opera City concert hall, ‘Takemitsu Memorial,’ and also performed his guitar concerto, ‘To the edge of dream,’ in 2003.
Recently, Suzuki gave recitals in Bankokg, Danmark, and Venesuera, and each received has highly acclaimed.
Suzuki released numerous recordings which include RITO (1996), Complete Collection of Guitar Works by Toru Takemitsu (1997), Française , Cheek to Cheek (1998), and 3 CDs of works by Agustín Barrios Mangoré (1999~2001). Hayashi Hikaru :Guitar Concerto ‘Northern Sail’ (2004). In 2005, his recording, Homage to Catalonia(2005), which contains works by Albeniz, Granados, Mompou, and Jose, won National Arts Festival Excellence award.
Suzuki plays guitar repertoires in many genres from classical music to modern and Jazz music and performed with many musicians, not only Japanese but musicians from abroad, such as Brandon Ross, Claude Bolling, Emily Beynon, Herbert Lippert, Kento Nagano, Martin Taylor, and Pirmin Grehl.
Suzuki won Idemitsu Award(2000) and Art encouragement prize for new person from Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs(2006)
